Nick Tatum is a Senior Learning Designer at McChrystal Group, specializing in the design of engaging, experiential learning solutions grounded in adult learning theory. He focuses on the role relationships play in how leaders learn and develop, working closely with clients to create experiences that are clear, compelling, and practical. His approach emphasizes collaboration and thoughtful design to ensure learning translates into meaningful, lasting impact.
What did you do before joining McChrystal Group?
Before joining McChrystal Group, I spent nearly a decade as a professor, teaching courses in public speaking, communication, learning theory, and statistics. I authored a textbook and published over 30 academic journal articles on instructional communication, presenting at more than 100 national and international conferences. I also served in administrative roles, leading departmental assessment and curriculum development initiatives to enhance educational outcomes.

I was excited by the opportunity to design strategic, impactful learning experiences—while working alongside people who care deeply about performance and purpose.
What is a hidden talent of yours?
I have a background in music and singing, and I’ve served as a voice coach, vocal arranger, and vocal director at the collegiate level—helping performers refine technique, blend harmonies, and elevate their stage presence.
