Doug Fears
Meet Doug
Doug is the Chief Operating Officer of Artis Magi, a science and technology company.
He served as the Eighth Homeland Security and Counterterrorism Advisor to the President, and also as Acting Deputy National Security Advisor for a concurrent four-month period, where his team developed and implemented over two dozen strategies and policies, and he led key decision-making fora to address complex homeland and national security challenges. In earlier National Security Council staff assignments, Doug served as the Senior Director for Resilience Policy, and during a previous Administration, as the Director for Central America and the Caribbean. Through his 40-year Coast Guard career, Doug served in eight Navy and Coast Guard ships around the world, and had eight tours of duty in Washington, DC; managing tactical, operational, and strategic risk to the nation. He retired in 2022 as a Rear Admiral.
He has an MPA from Harvard, an MA from the U.S. Naval War College, and a BS from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. He began his career as an enlisted Electronics Technician. He is also a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Seminar XXI program in Foreign Policy, International Relations, and the National Interest, and was a Military Fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, where he currently serves as a non-resident Senior Advisor. He is a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
