Shawn Tyrie is a Partner and the Government President at McChrystal Group, currently leading the firm's government practice. Shawn specializes in improving processes within the federal government sector, specifically around the recruitment and retention of the federal workforce and growing the adoption of advanced managed services.

WHY DID YOU JOIN MCCHRYSTAL GROUP?

I believe the company's founder – Stan McChrystal – created something very special at McChrystal Group. The lessons the company's early team learned from the crucible of combat during many very hard years have incredible applicability to emerging challenges in both government and commercial spheres today. That insight, combined with a team of incredibly experienced and pedigreed professionals, gives us an opportunity to have outsized impact with our customers. Every team member takes the implementation of those hard lessons very seriously.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR PROUDEST MOMENT AT MCCHRYSTAL GROUP?

Seeing the level of commitment our teams have to delivering against challenges that – if not addressed – could imperil a company or cause outright failure. We partnered with large government teams during COVID-19, advised Fortune 50 companies struggling to compete in new markets and supported CEOs during strategic pivots that could not fail. Our teams are undeterred, they know they can deliver transformative change and implement the most strategic initiatives when the stakes are high. We love hard problems.

WHAT  sport or hobby do you have outside of work?

I live just a few blocks from McChrystal Group headquarters. I enjoy running local trails and getting into the gym every day. I am an avid reader and researcher of foreign policy, geography, culture, and current events. My passion for the national security arena remains part of who I am. I am also an avid fly fisherman and chess player.
